Scholarship Applications

Dear Phi Theta Kappans,
Applications for the All-USA/Coca Cola Scholarship and the Guistwhite Scholarship will be available beginning Thursday, October 8th at the front desk of the LRC on both campuses. You can also stop by the office of Honors Director Erik Ozolins (MVC - Room 608) or my office (SJC-Room 1503) to receive a copy of the applications.

Please note that the deadline for the All-USA/Coca Cola Scholarship is Thursday, November 12th by 5 p.m. Applications must be submitted to Erik, myself, or to the front desk of the LRC before the deadline. All students who meet the eligibility requirements are welcome to apply. One of the requirements is a 3.5 GPA. From all the applications submitted, a committee of faculty and counselors will select two students from each campus to nominate and their applications will be sent to the All-USA/Coca-Cola scholarship foundation for further consideration.

The Guistwhite Scholarship is due Tuesday, December 1st. Unlike the All-USA/Coca-Cola Scholarship, applications will not be reviewed at MSJC. Applications must be mailed by the student to Phi Theta Kappa headquarters by the due date. This scholarship is open only to Phi Theta Kappa members and requires a 3.5 GPA.

We hope you will consider applying. Recipients of the All-USA Scholarship can win up to $2500 and media recognition in USA Today while Guistwhite award winners receive up to $5000. These applications are quite extensive so please get started early.

Good luck and let Erik Ozolins, PTK Faculty Advisor Nick Reeves, or I know if you have any questions.

Fall Book Drive

Hello Phi Theta Kappans,

Our book drive during the spring semester was an amazing success. With your help we collected over 700 books. It far exceeded our expectations. Thank you.

Encouraged by this success we decided to expand the book drive to not only look for textbooks but to include any kind of book fiction or non fiction, as well as dvd's.

We are supporting “Room to Read” which partners with local communities throughout the developing world to provide quality educational opportunities by establishing libraries, creating local language children's literature, constructing schools, and providing education for children. In addition, we decided to donate to libraries right here in our communities.

We would be grateful if you could donate books and dvd's you no longer need. You can drop them in one our collection boxes which you can find inside the library entrance on the San Jacinto campus and inside the Learning Resource Center entrance on the Menifee campus.

If you have any questions about the book drive please feel free to contact me at bookdrive@ptkbdo.org.

Thank you for your support.

Christian Saupe
Technology Officer

Last Meeting Minutes

Hello all,

For those of you who were unable to attend or anyone that needs a refresher =0) I am providing a recap of the last meeting. The overall feeling of the group was to get started early on all of our upcoming projects ( a list of which will be provided at the next meeting).

- PO approval for 150 members

-Blood Drive and Welcome Back BBQ on MVC the 25th of August and on SJC on the 26th from 9am to 2pm.

-There was a request that we review and make any necessary changes to our chapter bylaws.

....and lastly, the sad news of our Phillipe moving on to bigger and more exciting prospects. He is an inspiration and will be missed! We wish him luck!

Please note that our next meeting will be held August 12 at 5pm at either campus. Thanks!

Ashley Cook
